CD Projekt Red has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, launching September 29, as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the game also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net for the first time.

What’s New in the Remaster

The announcement, made during Gamescom Opening Night Live, detailed upgrades that go well beyond a visual refresh. According to CD Projekt Red and wccftech, the Remastered edition includes enhanced combat mechanics, improved traversal and mount handling, new Witcher sign effects, revamped monster AI, an overhauled skill tree, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and new finishing moves. As an added bonus, all current Witcher 3 owners now get complimentary access to the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions ahead of the Remastered launch.

First Look at Songs of the Past

Alongside the remaster, CD Projekt Red revealed Songs of the Past, a paid expansion set for release in 2027. It introduces a new region called Letten, described as “an idyllic land of rural tradition that hides a dark secret just below the surface.” Players will guide Geralt through encounters with previously unseen enemies, a new chain weapon, and reunions with familiar allies from the series.

Who’s Building It

Songs of the Past is being co-developed by Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes veterans of the original Witcher 3 development team, while a separate studio is handling the Remastered upgrade itself. Players who purchase Songs of the Past through Battle.net will also unlock a Geralt-inspired cosmetic item for Diablo 4, adding a cross-platform bonus for fans of both franchises.

Why It Matters

With a free remaster arriving for existing players and a new expansion already teased for 2027, CD Projekt Red is signaling long-term investment in The Witcher 3 nearly a decade after its original release, giving both longtime fans and new players on Switch 2 and Battle.net fresh reasons to return to the world of Geralt of Rivia.
