Starting on May 19 and going through the 21, Digital Dragons will be hosting their 2024 game development conference in Kraków, Poland, with the event organizers announcing on May 8 that Baldur’s Gate 3’s director, Sven Vincke, will be one of the event’s guests. A day after he was announced to appear, the developer wrote on X that his talk during the event would be “one of the last times” he’ll be speaking about the game.

In the same post, he stated that he wants to “focus on new things,” advising fans to ask questions before he begins moving on from the project. Although disappointed, many fans understand the director’s wishes and thank him for leading the team in the wildly successful game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was fully released in August 2023. Due to its similar mechanics to the tabletop role-playing game, it received almost perfect scores from critics and massive fanfare from both Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons and Dragons fans. According to Larian Studios, which developed and published the game, the title has sold over 10 million copies since February of this year.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has received several awards with its sweeping shows, with six winning awards from The Game Awards 2023 and five from the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. awards. Some of these go to Vincke for his role as the game’s director alongside Astarion voice actor Neil Newbon and the game’s producer, David Walgrave, with several team members also receiving awards.

The role-playing game was not the first title in the genre directed by the Belgian director. He previously worked with the Divinity franchise as the project lead for seven games in the series. In 2023, Variety cited him as one of the “500 most influential business leaders shaping the global media industry.”

Tickets for the Digital Dragons conference are still available on their website. Other speakers at the event include BLANK. Game Studios’ Narrative Director, Artur Ganszyniec, and Ubisoft HQ’s Global Creative Office’s Content Director, Ahmed Salama.
