After more than a decade of anticipation, Rockstar Games’ long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI is officially set to be released in May 2026, but new reports suggest fans may have to wait a little longer than expected. The sequel is now rumored to be pushed back to October 2026.
‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Release Date
The news follows a record-shattering trailer debut, which garnered over 126 million views and sparked global excitement, with speculation, leaks, and fan theories circulating on the internet.
Tom Henderson, the co-founder and editor-in-chief for Insider Gaming, shared that it is much more likely for Grand Theft Auto VI to be pushed back to October rather than its initial release date in May. Henderson suggested on his podcast Insider Gaming Weekly: A Video Game Podcast, that Rockstar is a perfectionist company, “GTA is such a monumental game, anything that is wrong with it, even the slightest bug like your character clips outside of a door when you’re trying to open the door to a car or whatever, the media is gonna run with that,” Henderson noted.
Henderson also elaborated on the benefits of releasing Grand Theft Auto VI in October rather than May, considering holiday sales along with next-generation preparations, suggesting that an official announcement from Rockstar may come in the next financial call, which will be in November. He closed off his statement with, “I think the industry is just gonna wait and see what they say.”
