The new trailer for the latest entry in the Dragon Quest franchise, Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams, has fans speculating about the protagonist of the game. Following the Beyond Dreams subtitle, the main character will be troubled by visions in his sleep. He is shown as a young man with a sword, spiky hair, a blue shirt, brown armor and bags under his eyes.
Later in the trailer, however, we see an anthropomorphic dragon character sporting a similar getup of a blue shirt under brown armor. He also has spiky hair and a sword that looks very familiar, as noted by @SQEX_fan on X.
This has led fans to theorize that these are, in fact, the same character, only he is in human form while awake and in dragon form while asleep.
Another thing fans noted is that the sword they carry strongly resembles The Sword of Dai from Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai.
Also interesting is that Dai is part dragon, which only strengthens this theory.
I guess we will have to find out when the game releases.
