Fans React To New Legendary ‘Clash Royale’ Card, Spirit Empress

Clash Royale, the mobile multiplayer strategy game, released a brand new legendary card on July 7 titled the Spirit Empress.

About Spirit Empress

When Spirit Empress debuted, players had the opportunity to obtain the legendary card for free through the Supercell store.

If players missed the limited-time event, they can obtain Spirit Empress by unlocking Miner’s Mine (Area 15). Her abilities depend on the amount of elixirs the player has when using the card. With three or fewer elixirs, she acts as a ground unit, much like a Knight, dealing strong single-target damage. Once she reaches 6 elixir or more, she transforms into a ranged attacker, riding a dragon with air targeting, where she’s able to eliminate ground troops.

Spirit Empress: Fan Reactions

Clash Royale fans had mixed reactions to the legendary card, noticing points of weakness that make gameplay all the more frustrating. One user under the r/ClashRoyale subreddit stated, “I like the versatility and idea of the card but not having control over what version you use is kind of a flawed design, and on top of this, if your opponent plays the ground version on defense, it’s a dead giveaway that your opponent is low on elixir and you can punish them.”

Another player came to the game’s defense, where they commented, “The lack of control is intended by the developers, they talked about this on the Discord Q&A,” they started, ” It forces you to play more strategically and doesn’t just give you two more cards in your deck for free. It also gives your opponent outplay potential and rewards elixir counting. Doing this would just remove a big chunk of skill surrounding the card.”

Fans were also upset with the new card release instead of bringing back the 2v2 game mode, which was released in 2017 and has been under maintenance since the quarter two update on June 30 due to buggy gameplay causing players’ games to crash.

Under Clash Royale‘s official X post of Spirit Empress, fans of the game commented, “Where on earth are 2v2s? It’s getting ridiculous at this point,” another player added, “2v2 will not come back, don’t waste time, just stop playing the game. That’s when they will change.”
