‘Minecraft Earth’ Shutting Down In June

Minecraft Earth, the Pokémon Go version of the Minecraft series, will be shutting down on June 30, 2021. The news comes from a blog post from the official Minecraft website with Mojang confirming the reason for the game’s demise is the ongoing global pandemic that is sweeping the world. “Minecraft Earth was designed around free movement and collaborative play – two things that have become near impossible in the current global situation,” reads the blog post. “As a result, we have made the difficult decision to re-allocate our resources to other areas that provide value to the Minecraft community and to end support for Minecraft Earth in June 2021.”

Additionally, Mojang confirmed that the game would receive one last update to remove all microtransactions and rebalance the game’s economy and time management to accommodate these changes. For those who made in-app purchases, you will receive Minecoins, which can be used to purchase skin and texture packs, maps and minigames. Finally, you’ll be receiving a free copy of the Bedrock version of Minecraft on the system of your choice.

If you haven’t played or heard of Minecraft Earth, now is the best time to check it out.

Minecraft Earth was released in early access on October 17, 2019, before it officially launched on December 11 for IOS and Android devices.
