The global social-simulation sensation, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, has released its version 2.0.7 update on May 27.

The New Horizons installment of Animal Crossing is the best-selling in its entire series and the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game with 47.8 million units sold, behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 68.2 million units sold as of March 31, 2025.

After a three-year hiatus, following the previous update launching in November 2022, Nintendo decided to patch up gameplay for the upcoming Switch 2.

While this update is minor compared to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Kirby and the Forgotten Land getting their own Switch 2 edition, and only meant to “Improve[d] the compatibility for multiplayer sessions between Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch”, according to Nintendo. This latest version suggests that Nintendo anticipates an influx of new and returning players following the release of the Switch 2.

The last major update, version 2.0, was released in November 2021 and received positive feedback from players worldwide. This update included sixteen additional villagers, eight returning and eight new, as well as several new locations players can enjoy.

With such an optimistic response from users following this update, players are hopeful that Nintendo will soon launch another major update after the release of the Switch 2.
