Ridley Scott Weighs In On Epic Games’ Mock ‘1984’ Ad Attacking Apple

Back in August, Epic Games courted controversy by going against Apples’ App Store and Google Play’s policies and adjusting their prices for Fortnites’ in-app purchases. Apple and Google promptly removed the game from their app stores and, in response, Epic Games released a video parodying a famous Apple Super Bowl commercial, criticizing Apple’s policies.

The director of the commercial, Ridley Scott, weighed in on the video saying that it lacked originality. “I wrote to them because on the one hand I can be fully complemented by the fact they copied [my commercial] shot for shot,” Scott said. “But pity the message is so ordinary when they could have been talking about democracy or more powerful things… And they didn’t use it. I think the animation was terrific, the idea was terrific, the message was ehh.”

Epic Games and Apple are currently suing each other over the matter. With these both being massive companies, it is unlikely that this will be resolved in the near future. And unlikely that we will see Fortnite back on the app store anytime soon.
