Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will mark the end of the Miles Morales trilogy. This was confirmed by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The final installment in the franchise is set to release on June 19, 2027.

This is big news to fans, considering what the Spider-Verse has accomplished. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and changed the way superhero animation could look. Across the Spider-Verse, the 2023 sequel expanded the universe and left fans on a massive cliffhanger. These two films helped to create one of the most praised animated franchises of all time.

Miller told host Josh Horowitz, “This is the last of these Spider-Verse stories.”

In another interview with Collider, Miller stated, “It’s the last of this trilogy,” with Lord adding, “The last of this trilogy, for sure.” When talking about Beyond the Spider-Verse, both producers described it as the most emotionally intense of the three, with a huge finale to conclude the franchise.

With the multiverse the way it is, Beyond the Spider-Verse might not be the last time we ever see Morales in action. Depending on how the film plays out, he could still appear in future projects. His relationship with Gwen Stacy could play a role in continuing Morales’s story through a Spider-Gwen spinoff.

Sony isn’t shutting down, it’s merely rearranging itself.

The studio will no longer be developing a singular overarching narrative but rather separate, standalone film narratives centered on the characters who have successfully broken out within the existing trilogy.

Each character from the original trilogy will receive individualized attention, with both Spider-Gwen and Spider-Punk currently being developed individually as feature-length solo films, allowing each character an opportunity to tell their own unique stories.

On top of this, Nicolas Cage is slated to appear as Ben Reilly (Spider-Noir) in a new series debuting exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on May 27, 2026, indicating that Sony intends to explore vastly different tones/elements within the larger Spider-Man universe.

A lot of franchises never know when to end and tend to drag out the series until it becomes dry, and fans start to lose interest. This gives the series a finished-product feel rather than an endless product.
