Thirteen years and multiple ports later, The World Ends With You is finally receiving a sequel. Set in the same fictionalized version of Shibuya, Neo: The World Ends With You puts players in the shoes of Rindo. As with the first game’s protagonist, Neku, Rindo finds himself mixed with a group of fellow teens and must compete in the Reaper Game, which will decide the fate of the existence of him and his fellow players.
The trailer that Square Enix released shows off brand-new gameplay, with the game ditching the 2-D art style of the original in favor of full-3d environments and a completely overhauled combat system. Neo: The World Ends With You will arrive on both Nintendo Switch and PS4 in the summer of 2021.
If you couldn’t play the original game, it’s currently available on Nintendo Switch, IOS and Android devices. Along with a brand new game, Square Enix also revealed when fans would catch the anime adaptation of The World Ends With You. The anime series will arrive in April 2021, though an exact date has yet to be revealed. The series will be licensed by FUNimation Entertainment and be released on their streaming service in the United States. No word on if they will release an English dub.
