Trailer Released For ‘Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms’

The first trailer for Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms recently released on July 1. This animated full-length film was first announced around two weeks ago. This film takes place after the end of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, which debuted in 2020. The films were based on the famous video-game series Mortal Kombat, which was first created by Midway games in 1992.

The trailer was released on IGN’s YouTube channel and provides a lengthy plot description for the upcoming animated feature. In this film, the heroes are “besieged by the enemy forces of Shao Kahn- forcing Raiden and his group of warriors into a deal to compete in a final Mortal Kombat that will determine the fate of the realms” according to the provided synopsis. The heroes must then journey to Outworld while Scorpion races in search of the Kamidogu (an ancient mystic relic) before its power falls into the wrong hands.

The trailer features a healthy mix of intense gore and light humor. The trailer also hints at a prophecy involving a child whose soul is “so pure that it could save the realms.” This child is subsequently revealed to be Liu Kang.

Ethan Spaulding directed the film and the script was written by Jeremy Adams. Spaulding and Adams filled the same roles for Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. Adams has previously worked on projects including Supernatural and Teen Titans GO! versus Teen Titans. Spaulding has directed multiple episodes of shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

Many actors from the previous film will return. Joel McHale will play Johnny Cage while his co-star Jeniffer Carpenter will return to voice Sonya Blade. Jordan Rodrigues, Patrick Seitz, Artt Butler and many others will feature in the film as well.

The film will be available on digital platforms and in physical Blue-Ray copies on August 31, 2021. Pre-orders for the Blue-Ray and 4K Ultra HD Blue-Ray combo pack are now available, while the digital version can be preordered starting July 8.
