With Gears 5 coming in a few months, there is a Versus Tech Test that will essentially be a beta for the upcoming game. There, it will introduce the new mechanics in multiplayer mode, including versus, and the new arcade mode, which is a mode that increases your firepower with every kill you get during the game you’re in the lobby. The more points you earn will give you the ability to bring heavy weapons into the game, like the Mulcher. The Coalition have released a trailer for the Tech Test that is coming, showing off some new features that come with the arcade mode. Check it out:

Lead developer Rod Fergusson feels pretty ambitious about this release, saying it’s riskier than other Gears releases. “We felt like we had to prove ourselves,” he said, according to Kotaku. “We really went out going, ‘Okay, we’re going to stay true to what Gears is, and [not] mess with it too much.’ We really didn’t want people going, ‘Well they don’t know what they’re doing.’”

The Tech Test will open up on Friday, July 19, with the game officially coming out on September 10, 2019 on Xbox One and PC. Gears 5 will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass, according to PC Gamer. You can even play the Ultimate Edition of game on September 6 if you are subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

“And what we got instead was like, ‘There’s not enough innovation here.’ We sort of took that feedback about, ‘We trust you, please go push it.’ And so we really brought that to Gears 5,” Fergusson said, according to Kotaku at E3.

Fergusson later said he had helped on the release of Gears of War 4, which game out in 2016, but this would be The Coalition’s first project where they did it by themselves. The Microsoft-owned company has something to prove with their first release.
