‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Will Return To PlayStation Store On June 21
CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 will make its return to the PlayStation Store. The game will be available on June 21.
This comes from an announcement from the company according to Eurogamer. “In relation to Current Report no. 66/2020 of 18 December 2020, the Management Board of CD Projekt S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw hereby publicly discloses the decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to reinstate the availability of the digital edition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store, effective on 21 June 2021,” CD Projekt Red said in their announcement.
However, users shouldn’t expect the game to run completely smoothly on the base PS4 quite yet. “SIE can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021,” an SIE spokesperson told Engadget. “Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from the PlayStation Store on December 17, 2020, just one week after launch. Players have been unable to purchase the game in the store since last year. Sony enacted this measure due to the exorbitant amount of bugs and technical problems that the game had when it was initially released. Cyberpunk particularly blundered performance-wise on the last-generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Sony, along with Microsoft, offered customers reimbursement for the game. Microsoft did not remove the game from its online marketplace but did implement a warning to Xbox One users when they attempted to purchase it.
Cd Projekt Red has taken steps to remedy these issues in the past months. They have implemented multiple patches for the Xbox, PlayStation and PC iterations of the game. CD Projekt Red stated that they made “visible progress” in fixing the game issues, but that Sony had the final say in the end. The company cites the game’s removal from the PlayStation Store as a possible downward driver of sales. These patches have also seemed to come at a somewhat steep cost, as CD Projekt Red’s profits fell by over 50% since the release of the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most anticipated games in recent memory. CD Projekt Red spent nearly 10 years developing the game and has said that the title is a long-term investment for the company.
