Rumors have begun to circulate that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might be starring in a film based on the Call of Duty franchise. These rumors come shortly after Johnson teased that he would be starring a film adaptation of a popular video game series and that the movie would be announced this year.

“I can’t tell you which game, in particular, we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year,” Johnson told Men’s Journal. “We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen–one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends–but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

The movie is apparently planned to be based on the Call of Duty universe, according to a report by Giant Freakin Robot. The series has had games based on many different eras including World War II, the Cold War and fictional wars taking place in the future, so it’s impossible to know what era the movie might be based on and what character Johnson might play.

Activision Blizzard has previously stated that they had plans to establish a Call of Duty cinematic universe in 2015, but later stated that film adaptations were no longer a priority.

Johnson has recently starred in two video game-based film adaptations, taking place in the worlds of Doom and Rampage. He also made an appearance in the massively popular battle royale game Fortnite as The Foundation.
