A new report claims that the Fallout 3 remaster is in active development three years after it first appeared in Microsoft documents. This news has reassured fans who were worried the project had died after a long period of silence. Looking at Xbox’s plans for 2026, this news gives fans hope that the remaster hasn’t been canceled yet.

The plan first surfaced in 2023, with FTC court filings hinting at remastered versions of both The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3. Since then, the Fallout 3 project has consistently missed release dates that fans expected.

The hype around Amazon’s Fallout TV show made the fans even more eager for a possible release. There is still no information on an announcement, a release date, or which platforms the game will be released on.

Bethesda, the developer of the Fallout series, wants Fallout 3’s remastered version to be on the same level as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This may be why the game hasn’t dropped yet.

Similar reports claim that Bethesda is working on new content for space RPG Starfield, which is set to receive an update and more significant DLC. A PlayStation 5 version of Starfield is also rumored to be in the works, signaling a broader multiplatform strategy.

Xbox’s 2026 lineup is looking pretty stacked with Fallout 3 and Starfield updates, along with other projects like Gears of War: E‑Day, Fable and Halo: Campaign Evolved.

With the ongoing success of the Fallout TV shows and the leaks, Bethesda seems intent on keeping both Fallout and Starfield in the limelight while The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 remain further off.
