Build a Rocket Boy’s debut game, MindsEye, has been met with an abundance of criticism. Launching on June 10, the third-person action-adventure game has already received thousands of mixed reviews.

About The Game

MindsEye is described as a narrative-driven, single-player,  action-adventure thriller set in the futuristic city of Redrock. Users play as the story’s protagonist, Jacob Diaz, as Steam explains it, “to uncover the truth, AI, hi-tech experimentation and unchecked military power shape every encounter.

MindsEye Negative Reviews

Fans have kept an eye on the release of Mindseye due to the CEO, Leslie Benzie. Being the former president of Rockstar North, the game developer for Grand Theft Auto, fans were excited to see his first project since parting ways with the company. Still, players were left heavily disappointed with the vast number of bugs and glitches in the game play.

A user on Steam described the game as “Absolutely terrible. Just awful. A disaster, really,” further explaining that the game play becomes frustrating due to the amount of technical issues, “It’s hard to enjoy anything when the whole thing feels broken and unpolished.”

Some are also accusing developers of purposely adding extra cut-scenes to push players past the two-hour mark, making the game unrefundable on Steam.

Build A Rocket Boy’s Response

In the MindsEye Discord server, Mark Gerhard, Co-CEO of Build a Rocket Boy, was asked if he believes “all the people who reacted negatively were financed by someone,” to which he responded with: “100 percent.” He then said, “doesn’t take much to guess who,” which led people to believe he was hinting that he believed Rockstar Games had something to do with the abundance of negative reviews.

Along with the negative feedback on their debut game, Build a Rocket Boy lost two executives one week before launch: CLO Riley Graebner and CFO Paul Bland.

In the MindsEye subreddit, developers have acknowledged the gameplay issues, and engineers have been “working around the clock” to fix bugs and improve the game’s performance.
