It’s 2025, the year of the remake of now-retro games. The ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s are retro in 2025. Now, Gothic will get the retro treatment.
Gothic, an RPG released in 2001, centers around surviving in the prison colony Khorinis and helping other prisoners. Defeating the Sleeper is the number one priority, and doing so saves you and your fellow conscripts. Choose your faction and work through the path choices.
Gothic‘s allure is its acclaimed storyline, gritty characters and great graphics. The plot and side quests had a few loose ends, but maybe the developers resolved them in this remake.
The game has been pushed back a few times already, but Alkimia Interactive claims its final date is December 31, 2025. This puts it at the end of the year, leaving it to battle for sales with other games. The devs have allowed players to play the demo and even post gameplay at this point. Players currently laud the remake and rave about the graphics changes. The updates prove that the essence of the game is still there.
Gothic is available for preorders and available for purchase on Windows, PlayStation and Xbox.
