‘Destiny’ Developers Took Fan Feedback Seriously When Creating ‘Destiny: Rising’

Destiny, the online-only multiplayer first-person shooter franchise that first launched in 2014, reached a major milestone on August 28 with the release of its thirteenth installment. Unlike the previous releases, which were primarily designed for consoles, this newest game, Destiny: Rising marks the series’ debut on mobile platforms

In the official Developer Preview, Destiny: Rising‘s lead designer Murty Wu stated, “We’ve been listening carefully to your feedback over the past few months, and have made significant improvements to the game.”

Wu described that based off feedback, they completely transformed the weapon and artifact’s systems. System designer Tianze Sun explained, “For weapons, we’ve rebuilt the mod system from the ground up. You’ll now experience random attributes and new progression paths.” Sun continued, “As for artifacts, we’ve scrapped the old artifact-sets bonus system. Each artifact now comes with its own distinct attributes, letting you mix and match to create your perfect combat style. And, as something many of you requested, we’ve added the slide feature. This brings more fluid movement and tactical options to every fight.”

Wu further comments that the developing team and he are “fully committed to delivering that immersive sci-fi experience you love.” Fans appreciated how their feedback was taken into consideration by the developers in the comment section: “Kinda crazy how every single pain point I listed in my feedback from beta was addressed. Thank you for actually listening,” a user commented. Another added, “OK, I’m 100% in now. When the devs care this much about their player base, you know it will be good!”

NetEase also announced a collaboration with Destiny 2, possibly to attract its older fan base to the mobile release. They announced, “After completing the Bear the Light event in Destiny: Rising, players will be able to redeem an exclusive emblem for use in Destiny 2 through the Bungie.net website.”
