Utilizing the real-time weather feature, players of Microsoft Flight Simulator have been following the path of Hurricane Laura, a storm that ravaged the Louisiana coast this week. While this is amazing for many reasons, the most stunning part is the optics.

This game has been a revelation over the past few weeks and with hurricane season coming as well as the natural disasters such as the California brush fires, I imagine that this will become a greater trend among players over the next few months. The live weather system pulls in a lot of real-world data that allows for experiences like this, but it is also optional. There is also a feature where the weather is randomly generated as opposed to in real-time weather–some choose this option because the real-time weather can be buggy.
With the popularity of this game growing, it will be interesting to see if it has staying power within the gaming community since there is little variety to the game. But they could use this weather feature to add new wrinkles and features to the game that keeps gamers coming back but right now there have been no such announcements.
