Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, the eleventh release in the Ninja Gaiden series, is making headlines with its extraordinary 2D action gameplay and high ratings.

Released on July 31, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound has already accumulated a 9/10 on Steam, 9/10 on IGN, and a 4.75/5 on PlayStation. The retro-modern mix gameplay has captivated players, old and new, including Ninja Gaiden‘s signature style with 2D side-scrolling and fast-paced combat, along with two new lead characters, Kenji and Kumori. Kenji is a student of the classic Ninja Gaiden protagonist, Ryu, and Kumori is a Kunoichi from the Black Spider Ninja Clan.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound: Fan Reactions

Fans have been loving Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, flooding social media with their reviews. Under the official Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound – Launch Trailer, fans left comments such as, “Love it!! Reminds me of my childhood. Nostalgic!!! Bring on all the ninja classics,” another added, “This looks brutal in the best way. If they nail the combat flow like the classics, Ragebound might just earn its place next to the legends.”

Steam users also added their takes on the game, “Call me an old man, but this is what gaming is meant to be!!!!! If you’ve played the old NES Ninja Gaiden games, this will seem very familiar. Gameplay is very nostalgic while adding a few tweaks and variations that make it feel fresh,” one player commented. Another user stated, “Excellent game, incredibly fun to play with very fast and fluid movement and controls, excellent level design, good difficulty and an amazing soundtrack.”

Many players aren’t surprised by the game’s success, pointing out that The Game Kitchen, known for the Blasphemous series, also developed Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.

Under the r/Games subreddit, a user commented, “Not surprised that this is reviewing well, given the devs involved. This year has been a fantastic year for Ninja Gaiden so far,” along with another who was convinced to play the new Ninja Gaiden game because of The Game Kitchen’s involvement, “Ooh. I wasn’t that interested but that sways me a bit. Loved Blasphemous. Makes sense now seeing the art style,” they responded.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is available to play on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles for $24.99.
