Square Enix Finally Releases More Info On ‘Crisis Core’

Since the announcement of the remake of 2007’s Crisis Core, Final Fantasy fans have been hinging on more information on the upcoming Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Finally, Square Enix released some tidbits on the highly anticipated remaster.

According to a tweet sent out by the studio, Crisis Core will have tons of changes from the original PSP version. This includes a new camera and character models. Those changes are expected as the trailer depicted faster movement in combat, exploration, and immersive settings which would need a high-quality design and camera to capture it all. The game is also using the same seeings of Aerith and Zack from the remake of Final Fantasy VII that was released in 2020.

In addition to the camera, the remaster will also feature a completely revamped user interface and menu-style fighting. This is one of the biggest changes from the PSP version as new menus would look to take advantage of PC and console controls rather than the compact portable system. This also means that there will be a slew of new features, combos, attacks and more added within the combat system itself as the database capabilities are increased.

Sonically, the game will look to take advantage of the updated Dolby Atmos and Sony sound systems that consoles have, meaning sound design will also be changed – this plus a new soundtrack from Takeharu Ishimoto and voiceovers in scenes that were previously only text.

Crisis Core follows the hero Zack Fair (who met his demise much to the dismay of fans in Final Fantasy VII) and his journey to find missing soldier Genesis Rhapsodos. The game is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII and is one of the highest-rated Final Fantasy games in history, with some media outlets calling it one of the best prequels of all time.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is set to release to the public this winter.
