Fans of Super Smash Bros. will now have to hang up their hopes of Waluigi ever being a playable character. Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has admitted to working on a new game. Sakurai announced the latest game on his YouTube Channel when he wrapped up with his final episode.

While he did not give any details, fans of the Smash franchise will continue to watch for more game-creation content in hopes that Sakurai will provide more hints. “You think I look older than I did in my other videos,” he said. “That’s to be expected. Until recently, all the footage of me was recorded from two and a half years ago.

The veteran game maker explained how many hours he’d spent making content for his channel to further the cause of game creation.

“I hope from the bottom of my heart I’ve contributed at least a little bit of wind to the industry’s sails,” Sakurai said. The comments section below was filled with commentary listing his legacy to game design and the gaming industry with his channel.

Sakurai admitted he might have more to discuss, but he has no plans to continue at the moment. The real shock to his fans was that when he was working on the Super Smash Bros DLC in July 2021, he was given a proposal for a new game that he “finished at lightning speed.” While he admitted “he can’t share anything on this top-secret project,” he hopes it will be done so that he can release information once it’s ready.

After wrapping up his commitments to finishing his projects, like Sora from the Super Smash Bros DLC, Sakurai discussed the game proposal. He explained how he has always been moving from one job to the next, with his next projects overlapping. “Directors tend to stay involved in projects longer than anyone else,” said Sakurai. He had a break in his schedule, which led to him creating his channel.

Currently, Sakurai plans to keep quiet about what is going on with his current game, so fans will have to pay attention to future updates on this top-secret project. He and his team have been working on this game since August 2022 leaving a chance that there could be news soon.
