After a fiery Twitter rant, Terraria creator and developer Andrew Spinks declared that his game’s Google Stadia port was cancelled after he was locked out of his Google accounts. An admin on Terraria‘s online forums has now confirmed that Spinks has regained access to his accounts and that the game’s Google Stadia port is formally un-canceled.
Terraria forum admin “Loki” wrote in a post Monday, “As you may have noticed, we had a ton of issues to kick off the year stemming from the locking-down of [co-creator Andrew Spinks’] entire Google account in early January. After a month of pushing (and with the immense support of our fans), Google finally reached out and was able to provide a lot of transparency around the situation and to restore access to all of our accounts. Due to the hard work the Stadia team has put in – as well as our partners at 505 Games – we have decided that we will allow the upcoming launch Terraria on Google Stadia to proceed. The Terraria Stadia build is based on the DR Studios 1.4.0.5 (latest) build, and is currently at Google for certification review.”
Terraria development studio RE-Logic said in a subsequent statement. “Punishing existing customers who paid for our game on these platforms is not what we are about. To be clear: there should be no impact whatsoever to Terraria on Google platforms, both existing/purchased games as well as ongoing store availability,” a spokesperson for the studio told IGN.
When Spinks canceled Terraria‘s Google Stadia port, several fans were confused since the port had actually never been announced. In that single moment, Spinks both birthed and killed the game. Stadia players can now take a deep breath though, as some tactful negotiating from both Re-Logic and Google has led to the result best for gamers, more games.
