Fans got a glimpse of the next few years of the Total War series during its 25th anniversary showcase.

Lords of the End Times DLC

To commemorate a decade of the Warhammer line, Creative Assembly confirmed a Lords of the End Times DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3. The studio stated in its showcase:

“Taking inspiration from the lore, players will face a campaign experience transformed, with apocalyptic scenarios and cataclysmic events that push the boundaries of strategy and survival. And to crown this update, a new Legendary Lord will rise, ready to leave their mark on the cataclysm to come.”

Arriving in the summer of 2026, this expansion will reportedly add four new Legendary Lords to the Immortal Empires campaign. The first of these will be the great necromancer, Nagash, with his plot to drown the world in undeath. The new Legendary Lords bring with them a free End Times update, and the official Creative Assembly website says to “expect a revamped campaign experience; cataclysmic events, apocalyptic scenarios, and all new campaign customization options. And to crown this update, a new Legendary Lord will rise, ready to leave their mark on the cataclysm to come.”

With the Lords of the End Times DLC and the Warhammer series itself, Creative Assembly assured that there is much more to come.

Total War Will Be Coming To Consoles

To keep the warfare evolving, Creative Assembly developed a new game engine that equips developers with an arsenal of tools to make gameplay more immersive, dynamic, and responsive than ever before. It will be called “Warcore.” This engine will also enable Total War games to be played on Xbox and PlayStation for the first time. The Creative Assembly website added that Warcore is being designed to continue evolving to “unlock groundbreaking new capabilities that ensure Total War stays at the cutting edge of strategy gaming for years to come.” The website reassures:

“We understand that some of you will have concerns about how we approach console development, and that’s completely natural. Rest assured, PC remains at the very core of our design ethos, as it has done for the past 25 years. Throughout this journey, we’ve been working hand in hand with experienced Total War players to ensure that what we develop continues to deliver the same immersive, authentic, and tactically rich experiences you’ve come to expect from the franchise.”

Total War: Medieval III

The franchise crusades back to the medieval era with the announcement of the third installment in the Medieval subseries. A live-action trailer was released alongside the news, and the official description given in the showcase is as reads:

“Now in early pre-production, this next chapter is both a tribute to its legendary predecessors and a bold revolution for the series. Built as the ultimate medieval strategy sandbox, it will empower players to shape realms, rewrite history, and immerse themselves in the Middle Ages like never before. Combining meticulous historical authenticity with unprecedented player agency, this is more than a sequel, it’s the rebirth of historical Total War.”

Creative Assembly also confirms that they will be sharing updates and behind-the-scenes insights on the game’s development throughout the year, to maintain transparency with the fans.

“Surprise” Total War Game To Be Announced At The Game Awards

At The Game Awards, the showcase ended with a tease of a secret Total War game. The showcase teased that “this title will be Total War’s next major release and represents one of the most ambitious projects in the franchise’s history, marking the beginning of an exciting new era.”

On December 16, members of the development team will share some further insight into their vision and what’s to come.
