PS5 Reveal: All You Need to Know

Last week, Bloomberg reported that Sony would be cutting its estimates of PS5 production from 15 million to 11 million. It was initially thought the reason for the reduction was due to “production issues with its custom-designed system-on-chip for the new console,” based on sources that were “familiar with the matter.” The report mentions that issues had production yield, “as low as 50% for its SOC, which has cut into its ability to produce as many consoles as it wishes.”

However, in a statement given to Gameindustry.biz, a spokesperson from Sony has denied this report. “While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false,” Sony said. “We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.”

The PlayStation 5 is currently due out this year, though an official release date has yet to be revealed. However, an upcoming online presentation on Wednesday will focus on the PS5, with the likelihood of a release date and price reveal. Sony first unveiled the PS5 in June, with games to launch alongside it, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Bug Snax.

Last week, Sony’s competitor, Microsoft, announced that the Xbox Series X and S would be launching on November 10 for $299 and $499.
