Nintendo aired a Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday, highlighting several indie titles coming to the Nintendo Switch. Side-scroller Cuphead coming to Nintendo’s hybrid platform was the announcement that kickstarted the show, and Studio MDHR’s breakout hit will arrive on April 18. Our review for the game praised its cartoon-inspired animations and innovation, ensuring it’s a title Switch owners will want to sample.

What makes this reveal so intriguing, however, is that Cuphead was formerly a console exclusive for Microsoft’s Xbox One. In addition, Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox Live support will come to this iteration of their platformer. “We’ll be working with Studio MDHR to implement Xbox Live features into Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months,” as confirmed through their Xbox Wire blog.

Nintendo thanked their “friends at Microsoft” for allowing this port to grace their system in what’s the latest occurrence in a bizarre (but appreciated) tryst between the two gaming industry giants.
