With season 2 of Marvel Rivals hitting the game, players are now able to play as the first new character of the season, Emma Frost. She is a powerful mutant with telepathic abilities and the power to turn her skin into diamond. Originally an adversary to the X-Men as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, she has since turned over to the side of good in the Marvel universe.

With the start of the season, there are now also quests that can only be completed with Emma Frost. This coupled with her recent addition, place in the meta, and general popularity as a character has made her an almost guaranteed pick on both teams.

She is given strong, consistent damage through her primary fire, Telepathic Pulse. This is further amplified by Psychic Spear, which creates a second hitbox in the form of a psychic for Emma to attack and do further damage to. This ability can stack upon the damage done to the enemy player’s original hitbox, and offers burst damage once the crystal is destroyed.

And when in her diamond form, she is immune to stun abilities, gets a damage reduction, and is given access to potent melee attacks, which offer burst damage strong enough to quickly defeat most duelists and strategists in the game. And to top it all off, she’s given a shield she can place almost anywhere on the battlefield and an ult that controls the minds of the enemy team, doing damage over time and allowing Emma’s team to finish them off.

Overall, Emma Frost offers a versatile skillset and excels at multiple roles. She is excellent at both sustained and burst damage, making her ideal for both tank busting and quick disposal of lower-health enemies. She offers flexible defenses with her shield and can help the front line with the added defense from her diamond form. And her ultimate is ideal to combo with other high-damage-dealing ultimates in the game for large team wipes. At the moment, much of the community seems to be under the opinion that Emma Frost is currently an S-tier pick. Only time will tell how the community will adapt against this hero and how the developers will handle her down the line.
