New 3D Sonic Game Among Items Announced By Sonic Team
A new 3d Sonic game will be available to players in 2022 according to the Sonic Team. This was announced during the Sonic Central live stream on May 27, which was meant to celebrate Sonic’s 30th anniversary.
The announcement came in the form of a short teaser around the 11:40 mark of the stream. As Global Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog Ivan Gerscovish prepared to end the Stream, Takashi Iizuka interjected. Iizuka, who is the Creative Officer for Sonic The Hedgehog, sayid, “I have one more thing I’d like to show the fans.” What follows is a short teaser that shows Sonic running through a forest. A couple of seconds into this segment, the footage slows down and pixelated effects appear around Sonic. This could be hinting at a mechanic that will be present in this new Sonic Adventure.
No title was given for the game, with one of the only solid details being a 2022 release. According to Polygon, the game will be available for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox series X.
Another notable announcement was Sonic Colors: Ultimate. This is a remaster of Sonic Colors, which debuted in 2010 for Nintendo Wii and DS. This remaster will include graphical improvements, a new gameplay mode and control reworks. More features will be announced as well. The game will be in stores on September 7. It is currently available for pre-order here.
Sonic Origins is also set to drop next year. It will include a combination of Sonic titles, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. More titles may be added, however.
Many collectibles for Sonic’s 30th anniversary were also featured during the stream. These included play sets from Jakks Pacific, jewelry from King Ice and a Sonic “Enyclospeedia” from Dark Horse.
The Sonic Team is responsible for titles such as Sonic Forces, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic: Generations.
