Sonic‘s been on a roll lately. Based on his fast-paced escapades, this year’s movie blew through all expectations and became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2020, with a sequel scheduled to start filming next year. Now, Sonic will be seen on the small screen with a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog TV series in the works over at Netflix. Recently, one of Netflix’s Twitter accounts, NX on Netflix, released a teaser image for a brand-new animated series based on SEGA’s mascot before being taken down.

The upcoming show is scheduled to air in 2022 and will be in 3D. Man of Action, the creators of the Ben 10 franchise, as well as the short-lived Megaman: Fully-Charged TV series for Cartoon Network, will develop it, along with WildBrain Studios, who have worked on cartoons including The Powerpuff Girls reboot, The Amazing World of Gumball and Snoopy in Space.

The last cartoon series based on Sonic the Hedgehog was 2014’s Sonic Boom, which aired on the Cartoon Network and its sister network, Boomerang, before it was canceled in 2017. The show was released to coincide with the series’s attempted reboot, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, which was a critical and commercial failure.
