Disney Removes Ryan Reynolds' 'Free Guy' From 2020 Release Schedule

One of the more interesting films that was scheduled to come out in 2020 was Free Guy. The movie starring Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds sees the actor portraying Guy, an NPC that gains self-consciousness and must save his world from the game’s publisher, played by Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi. But, like many blockbuster movies this year, Free Guy was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Disney took Free Guy off from their release schedule, which was originally set to arrive in theaters on December 10, 2020. The upcoming video game movie will now be released in theaters on May 21, 2021, a few weeks after Black Widow, which will arrive on May 7.

Directed by Shawn Levy (the Night At The Museum trilogy), Free Guy will feature the star talents of Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Godmothered) alongside Reynolds and Waititi. YouTube gaming personalities Jacksepticeye, Ninja, Pokimane and LazarBeam will have cameos in the film, with the late Alex Trebek having a posthumous appearance.
