Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was announced as a Madden NFL 22 cover athlete on June 18 along with Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is the first time that Madden has had two cover athletes in 12 years since Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald were featured on the cover in 2010. Brady is considered to be the greatest player of all time. Mahomes, however, has been increasingly mentioned as part of this conversation with his continued excellence. Mahomes was featured on the cover of Madden 20 as well.

Brady, although massively successful in the NFL, has had difficulty finding victory in Madden. His opponents, however, are usually his children. Brady told ESPN that he was able to beat them initially, but that “now [he has] zero chance.”

“I mean, it’s not even close,” Brady said. “Unfortunately, they don’t even want to play with me anymore. You know, they’d rather just play with their friends but yeah, they are definitely into it and I still have fun playing it.”

Brady also explained that he tried to get his kids to play games less, but has to allow a certain amount of gaming due to how much their friends play. “They always look forward to it. But I definitely understand why, because I was the same way when I was a kid.”

Mahomes has experienced similar difficulties with winning in Madden. For Mahomes, his foe was his father. “My dad used to beat me with Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper and the Vikings,” Mahomes recounted in an ESPN interview. “It was a lot of fun, and I always used to try to get better when I played it, and I still play to this day.” Funny enough, Mahomes used to play as Brady and the Patriots during the contests against his father. Nowadays, Mahomes says that he usually plays against teammates but will “play online every once in a while.”

Madden 22 will release on August 20 on all major platforms. Both of these legendary players will undoubtedly continue to enjoy Madden with this newest installment.
