Released on June 18 as a limited-time game mode, Blitz Royale became one of the most popular game modes available on Fortnite.

Originally supposed to end July 15, Epic Games has extended Blitz Royale to August 12, giving players four more weeks of gameplay.

Blitz Royale gained popularity due to its fast-paced nature, which sets it apart from the original battle royale genre. Blitz Royale throws players into a five-minute battle with 31 other players. The Blitz game mode, originally designed for mobile players, quickly gained popularity across all platforms, breaking records for the most concurrent player count, with a peak of 443,379 players.

Player Response

When the game was released, Fortnite players immediately expressed their enjoyment of the game mode. In the r/FortniteBR subreddit, a user posted on June 19, “Seriously, Epic – love the mode, y’all cooked. I am seriously blown away and having so much fun with the mode. It feels like its own game, it is wild!” Another user added, “It’s SOOOOO much fun. It doesn’t even take away from regular battle royale – It’s just its own thing, and it’s so nice when you just want a quick, fun, high-energy game, instead of the usual slow-paced 20-minute round.”

Under the official X post announcing its extension, users flooded the comments with their desire for the game to be permanent, “Don’t you dare remove this game mode,” another user commented.
