Sufferers of submechanophobia might want to sit this one out. Subnautica 2 promises fans a whole new slew of reasons to fear the oceans.

The developers’ changes from Unity to Unreal Engine 5 slightly altered the appearance with the color palettes. Other than that, players will most likely rediscover their submechanophobia after getting stuck in the darkness of an alien ocean again. The game now offers multi-player features because there’s no suffering like mutually assured suffering with friends. The real question is if it’s optimized enough to be easy to launch.

The game follows up on exploring another alien ocean right after the spinoff, Subnautica: Below Zero, which allows you to experience the fear of being frozen underground. The protagonist of the previous game, Riley, is not featured in the trailer, suggesting we may get a new one to work with this time.

Early access is available this year. Right now, though, you can wishlist the game.

The popular survival game series returns to the screen sometime this year. Fans can find it on PC and Xbox Series X and S.
