Three Remastered ‘GTA’ Titles Reportedly Under Development
Three Grand Theft Auto titles are reportedly under development.
The gaming website Kotaku reported having acquired upcoming updates in GTA Online from reliable sources, suggesting that Rockstar is currently developing remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
All games are being remastered through Unreal Engine and will feature a combination of “new and old graphics.” The site said that the in-game visuals resemble “a heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title. The update also covers the user interface, which, however, will still retain the same classic style. Although no details of gameplay were available so far, the source has disclosed that the remastered titles will try to preserve the PS2-era vibe.
The Scottish studio Rockstar Dundee has also been reported to be the lead in developing remastered titles. The company is also working with the next-gen GTA V.
Originally, the remastered titles were going to be a free gift to those who purchase the upcoming ports of GTA V and GTA Online. But COVID has disrupted the schedule, and the trilogy is set to launch around late October or early November for multiple platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC, Stadia and mobile phones.
New ports of games like Red Dead Redemption will also have remastered versions.
