Recently, at The Game Awards 2024, Astro Bot was crowned with the award for Game of the Year among nominations such as Balatro, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Black Myth: Wukong and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Director of Baldur’s Gate 3 and winner of 2023’s Game of the Year award, Swen Vincke, presented the award to Nicolas Doucet, the head of Team Asobi Studios. Vincke commented on Astro Bot as he presented the award, saying that the game “changed his life,” and joked to Doucet “Should you be told to wrap it up, you can always come back and chat for three minutes,” poking fun at himself as Vincke was warned to wrap up his acceptance speech at The Game Awards 2023.

Upon receiving the award, Doucet thanked his development team at Team Asobi, as well as PlayStation for having faith in the Astro Bot project. He also expressed his gratitude to Nintendo as he recalled playing Super Mario Bros as a kid which inspired Astro Boy and his career overall. Lastly, Doucet gave thanks to the past 30 years of PlayStation’s history in game developing, which paved the way for Astro Bot’s successful gameplay.

Altogether, Astro Bot took home four of the seven awards it was nominated for. Aside from Game of the Year, Astro Bot also won awards for Best Family Game, Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure.

Aside from Astro Bot’s success, some other notable award winners from The Game Awards 2024 include Balatro winning Best Indie and Best Debut Indie, Metaphor: ReFantazio winning Best Narrative, Best Art Direction and Best RPG and Helldivers 2 winning Best Ongoing Game, and Best Multiplayer Game.
In addition to all of these well-deserved awards, many trailers for upcoming games were revealed at The Game Awards 2024 including highly anticipated titles like Witcher 4, Elden Ring Nightreign, Okami 2 and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
