In an X post on January 28, the official account for announcements regarding games based on Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise released a teaser video revealing some of the upcoming fighting game, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s, character roster – which mainly consisted of several variations of the series most popular characters Goku and Vegeta.

In this video, 24 variations of the two characters were revealed to be in Bandai Namco’s upcoming fighting game, with the end of the trailer showcasing that there will be over 150 total characters from the series that will be playable, including the variants of the other main characters. This large number of characters has caused major fanfare online, with devotees of the series excited to fight as their favorite Dragon Ball characters in the upcoming game.

First announced in March 2023, this will be the first game in the Dragon Ball Z: Bukodai Tenkaichi series since the series’ third entry in 2007. Spike Chunsoft will be returning to develop the game using Unreal Engine 5. The game will have a main story mode alongside its multiplayer fighting mode, however, the split screen mode from previous entries will be omitted in this new game due to technical concerns about implementing the feature on modern consoles.

The game will also include characters from the franchise’s movies but may be included as DLC content rather than being from the main game. Not much is known about who else will be included in the game, however, fans are excited for future announcements regarding the game.

Bandai Namco has also confirmed that fights in this game will last much longer than in previous entries in the Bukodai Tenkaichi series, with the character’s outfits deteriorating as the battle continues.  They have also announced that more trailers for the games, especially character reveals, are to come in the upcoming months.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will be released on PC through Steam and on consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X in early 2025.
