WATCH: Michael Thomas & Christian McCaffrey Star In ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Movie Super Bowl Ad [Video]
Based on Sega’s smash hit of a game in 1991, Sonic The Hedgehog has become an American cultural icon. Now, thanks to Paramount Pictures, our favorite blue hog will be given his own movie!
In 1991, it started out as a 16-bit game for SNES consoles. The game stars Sonic, an super-speedy royal blue hedgehog whose main purpose is to stop his enemy Dr. Robotnik from taking over their island. Robotnik does this by collecting six ‘chaos emeralds,’ which transforms animals into robots.
The original Sonic The Hedgehog trailer released in early 2019. Unfortunately for the graphic designers of Sonic The Hedgehog, they did not design Sonic to look like his original self. That is how most online users perceived it. Instead, designers chose to make Sonic look more like Mike Myers’ Cat in the Hat character. After getting lectured, tweeted at, and being sent hundreds of bad memes, Sonic’s designers stated that they would remodel Sonic.

The biggest star in this movie isn’t Sonic, but the movie’s antagonist, Dr. Robotnik. He is the evil scientist that wants to destroy Sonic and take over the world, will be played by one of Hollywood’s most comedic actors, Jim Carrey. “I don’t know if I’ve gotten older, or whatever it is, but the nature of this part, I wouldn’t mind doing another one because it was so much fun first of all, and a real challenge to convince people that I have a triple digit I.Q. There’s so much room, Robotnik has not reached his apotheosis,” Carrey said.
Sonic will be voiced by Ben Schwartz of Parks and Recreation. His older and human sheriff companion, Tom Wachowski, will be played by James Mardsen, who has seen lead roles in movies such as Hairspray and Enchanted.
