Dragon Age voice actor Greg Ellis, whose real name is Jonathan Rees, was arrested on multiple charges.

Rees is well known in the gaming community for providing the voice of the romanceable templar knight, Cullen Rutherford, in Dragon Age: Inquisition. As it turns out, Rees also has a disturbing personal history – he was arrested on Jan. 8 for charges of coercion, unlawful surveillance and harassment. Rees turned himself in at the Chenango County, New York Sheriff’s Office after appearing for the two felony and one misdemeanor charges.

According to a legal complaint filed in 2023 by his unnamed ex-girlfriend, Rees threatened to release explicit photos of the woman if she did not continue to reply to his messages following their breakup in September 2022. Before this complaint, there was a domestic violence restraining order filed against Rees in 2022, during which he allegedly intimidated witnesses who may have testified against him.

Rees is also being sued in a different case by another woman. In this case, the woman testified that Rees had threatened her and her family and created lies about them, which were posted on a website made by Vem Miller. Miller, who is a close friend of Rees, was arrested for attempting to enter a Trump rally in 2024 while illegally possessing a loaded handgun, a high-capacity magazine and a shotgun. Rees claimed in his legal filings that this second woman attempted to murder him.

Even within the Dragon Age community, Rees has been known for some questionable behavior after he uploaded a strange rant to YouTube against cancel culture, all while speaking about himself in the third person as his Dragon Age character, Cullen Rutherford. “This is my response to the mob’s inquisition of me and my voice actor, Greg Ellis, and how we attempted to understand the resultant blight it spread across the fandom.”

In this video, Rees criticized Black Lives Matter protests and the backlash of the #metoo movement. Despite his questionable behavior, Rees provided voices in Hogwarts Legacy and many animated shows prior to his recent arrest.
