‘Ghost of Yōtei’ Delivers A Fresh Revenge Story Centuries After The Story Of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’
The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima finally has a trailer and, by the looks of it, it will live up to everything that we loved about the original game.
The September State of Play closed out the PlayStation 5 exclusives with a three-minute trailer of Ghost of Yōtei, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2020 hit game Ghost of Tsushima. The trailer does not reveal too much about the gameplay or backstory of the game, but it does show off some stunning graphics and introduce us to our new protagonist, Atsu.
It isn’t clear yet if Atsu is actually a samurai, but we do know that she’s on a quest for vengeance and, per the trailer, she is “hunting” for someone in particular. The trailer reveals that Atsu has killed many along her warpath, causing every Rōnin in the region of Ezo (modern day Hokkaido and the setting of Ghost of Yōtei) to come after her. This is all we know about the story thus far, along with the fact that the game takes place 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima in the year 1603.
Though we are denied dialogue from her in the trailer, voice actor Erika Ishii has confirmed that they are the voice of Atsu. Ishii is best known in the gaming world for their work as Valkyrie in Apex Legends.
When it comes to the open-world setting of the game, it definitely does not disappoint. The visuals are nothing short of gorgeous, as the trailer shows Atsu passing through snowy tundras, grasslands and forestry mountains. Nate Fox and Jason Connell, the creative directors at Sucker Punch, took inspiration from the scenery of Hokkaido when they visited the Shiretoko National Park and stared at Mount Yōtei. The two of them stated that they strive to bring the “electrifying” feeling of both beauty and danger into the game.
Ghost of Yōtei is confirmed to be released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in 2025, yet the exact date is not yet specified. Sharpen your blades and prepare for this stunning open-world adventure.
