Grimes is really starting off her 2020s by releasing a brand new album, having a baby with Elon Musk, and by announcing her involvement as a character in the upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game with a rather unique background, and it is adapted from a gaming franchise that was popular in the very early 2000s. This game takes place in ‘Night City,’ in the state of California. In the year 2077, the world is totally run by corporations, and Night City’s workforce is mostly robots. Gang violence occurs often, and the internet is controlled by corporations and the United States army.

In an livestream to fans, Grimes announced that she will be playing the character of ‘Lizzy Wizzy.’ In Grimes’ own words, “I did my voice acting for Lizzy Wizzy, that game is going to be fucking good. I mean I haven’t played it, but I saw someone play an hour of the game.” Alongside the gameplay that’s won literally hundreds of awards from various websites, fans are stoked to see Keanu Reeves voice an important character in the game.

Grimes carried on, explaining more about her in-game character, “The game was fantastic, and I play a pop star who committed suicide on stage, and they had to quickly come and preform emergency surgery and replace her whole body with cybernetics while she was dead for an hour and then she finished the show as a cyborg. One of the greatest pieces of performance art ever made.”

The announcement is no longer available to watch on Youtube, Twitch, or any other medium. CD Projekt, the company that developed and published the game, most likely did not want major details to leak out about gameplay.

The game is currently scheduled to release on September 17, 2020.
