Next PlayStation VR System Announced By Sony

In a blog post Tuesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that the next generation of PlayStation VR will be coming to the PS5.

“Today I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity,” said Senior Vice President of Platform Planning & Management Hideaki Nishino. “Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”

Nishino noted that Sony has taken data from their PS VR system on PS4 in mind when developing the next-gen system. The VR system for PS5 will feature enhanced resolution, improved field of view options, more precise tracking and options for input. Stunningly, the new VR system will also only require a single cord to function.

Nishino tempered fans’ expectations, warning the system will not be coming out in 2021, “but we wanted to provide this early update to our fans, as the development community has started to work on creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.”

According to Nishino, fans can look forward to more details throughout the year on the new PS VR system.
