‘Stranger Things’ Star Finn Wolfhard Multiclasses Into Gaming Influencer
Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, has stepped into a new role with PlayStation Playmakers.
In a video posted to social media, Wolfhard sat atop a large box of PlayStation goodies and sported some new brand threads for the announcement.
This gaming influencer program launched with the intention of content creation and brand promotion including early access features and other unique experiences for fans of the console.
“They are a group of passionate PlayStation fans who also happen to be some of the most exciting creators, athletes, actors, artists, gamers, and entertainers in pop culture today,” said Eric Lempel, senior vice president and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “The Playmakers are a dynamic talent network that will continue to evolve and grow; they’re part of our journey to inspire gaming fans and prove the power of play.”
Wolfhard joins the party with many other recognizable faces from around the world, like Brazilian content creator Julio Cocielo, French football freestyler Lisa Zimouche, Internet personality and fellow actor King Bach and long-time NBA champion LeBron James.
“I never thought that I’d ever have “influencer” beside my name. I’m really doing it because I just really like playing video games, and I really like PlayStation,” said Wolfhard. “I think I’ve said “PlayStation” about 50 million times, but they truly did not tell me to say it this many times. I’m just really am excited about it.”
Wolfhard revealed that it was his uncle who helped him get into gaming with Final Fantasy X. More recently, his time has been spent on God of War and Last of Us: Part I and expressed an engaged interest in the new Spider-Man series.
With a directorial debut on the way, the Stranger Things actor is trying on more occupational hats. Wolfhard’s career has taken an interesting turn, and we shall see what projects PlayStation will soon bring him in on.
