Stardew Valley‘s newest update aims to make the game “a little more interesting.”
The 1.7 update addresses fan requests to make player-raised children “a little more interesting,” said Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, told IGN. Barone confirmed two new marriage candidates along with the family upgrades. There is no release date yet, but a big update is rumored to be on the way.
Some players say boredom is a constant problem in the game, with kids just walking around the house after two years old, leading to disappointment amongst players who want growth and events. “Well, there is a popular fan request, which has to do with the children, trying to make the children a little more interesting. So I’m trying to do something with that,” said Barone.
There is heavy speculation online that kids could be attending school or doing chores on a farm to finally give them a sense of purpose.
New marriages have been added to Stardew Valley, with the first since Shane and Emily’s in Update 1.1; The community on Reddit has narrowed down the favorites to names such as Wizard, Sandy, Marnie and Clint. This will allow for many new heart events, new farm layouts and new lines of dialogue for hours.
A ninth farm type mirroring 1.1’s Meadowlands will be included in the update, as well as hints of a farm map editor for “infinite replayability” with no AI. Barone teased “more character/social stuff” from December previews.
This all revolves around Stardew’s 10th anniversary, where Barone has hinted at unrequested surprises. Past updates like 1.6 have introduced festivals and pets, and 1.7 hopes to follow the same path.
