The first look at our heroes, Link and Princess Zelda, has entered the Hyrule Kingdom.
Promotional images depicting actors Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason as Link and Zelda, respectively, were released on Monday on the Nintendo Today app.
The Legend of Zelda was announced to be getting a live-action feature film adaptation in November 2023. Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Maze Runner, is set to direct the film, with franchise creator and Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto attached to produce. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
The pictures feature Link and Zelda amidst a vast green field, reminiscent of the landscapes players encounter in the games. Zelda, dressed in her teal tunic, is on one knee, wielding a bow in her left hand and a quiver full of arrows on her back while looking out into the horizon. Link is more casually squatted behind her in his classic green outfit, yet he is lacking his signature headwear. Both have their iconic pointy ears.
Miyamoto announced the casting of Link and Zelda via social media over the summer. He posted, “I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
Close-up shots of Ainsworth and Bragason in character accompanied this writing. Ainsworth and Bragason are both English actors; Ainsworth voiced Pinocchio in Disney’s 2022 live-action film adaptation of the tale and currently stars in the Canadian comedy series Son of a Critch. He has also been on Netflix, appearing in an episode of The Sandman and playing Miles in The Haunting of Bly Manor.
