The Assassin’s Creed series of games have a large following around the world, and with the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla sometime later this year, excitement continues to grow amongst fans.

For a while now, recent Assassin’s Creed games have not featured the iconic hidden blade, which is expected to make a return in the next iteration of the series. In the newest  of the series, the game will also see the return of one-hit kills, something fans have been asking for.

One of the reasons that recent games have not had the similar success of the early ones in the series, is unpopular changes like getting rid of the instant kill and hidden blade. With the return of both of these features, fans are excited at the fact that makers, Ubisoft and Gameloft, are listening to their ideas about how to make the iconic series better.

Ashraf Ismail is the creative designer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and said in designing the newest addition to the series, he and his team looked closely at what made the games popular in the past. “We wanted to look at the old games and see the greatness that those games had and acknowledge what’s great about the updated formula. There was an identity and a uniqueness that we wanted to bring back for Valhalla.”

Looking to the past might be the smartest thing the series has done in a long time, as the Assassin’s Creed series was one of the most popular and iconic video game series of the last decade as it has sold over 140 million copies of its games worldwide.
