David Cage, the mind behind games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, recently shared some thoughts on the Xbox Series S. In an interview with WCCFTech, Cage had some unfavorable thoughts about Microsoft’s much cheaper next-gen system. “Many developers prefer consoles to PC because on consoles you only have to deal with one hardware,” said Cage. “Whereas on PC, there are so many configurations, graphic cards, drivers, controllers, etc. that makes the development much more complex.”

Cage continued with concerns that developers may focus more on the Series S than the much more powerful Series X, while also thinking both consumers and developers will be confused by the two systems. “When a manufacturer offers two consoles with different specs, there is a strong chance that most developers will focus on the lower-end version to avoid doing two different versions… I think it is confusing for developers, but also for players, and although I can understand the commercial reasons behind this choice (a difference of €200 on the street price), I think the situation is questionable.”

Finally, Cage ended by saying that his company focuses on optimizing their games for each platform, which he believes is “helpful to highlight what the hardware has best to offer.”

Cage’s last game, Detroit: Become Human, was released on May 14, 2018. Currently, Quantic Dream is under investigation for claims of sexual misconduct.
