Not before long, Cyberpunk 2077 welcomed Gabriel Amatangelo as the new game director to replace Adam Badowski, who still remains with CD Projekt but will focus on other projects like the company’s transformation.

Amatangelo, an industry veteran who joined CD Projekt in January 2020 as creative director, will now lead development of the game’s upcoming expansion, CD Projekt said.

Back in December, 2020, the release of Cyberpunk 2077 was first gleaming with potential. Under the good impression of the studio’s previous game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), fans were eager to visit another virtual world built by CD Projekt. The game later did receive praise for its engaging narrative, unique setting and excellent graphics.

That said, Cyberpunk 2077 failed to withstand the weight of high expectation, rife with numerous bugs that severely sabotaged the gameplay experience. Receiving multiple reports and critics regarding the issue, Sony then decided to delist Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 7 days after its launch and promised to offer refunds to players who purchased via PlayStation Store or physical copies.

Although we can see new patches of Cyberpunk 2077 available on many platforms, PlayStation consoles are still not included. Recently, Adam Kiciński, the resident and joint CEO of CD Projekt, addressed the situation.

“Unfortunately, I have no new information in this regard,” he said through a translator. “We are still in discussions and with every patch the game gets better and there is a visible progress, but as we said the decision is an exclusive decision of Sony, so we are waiting for the information about the fact that they took the decision to bring back this game. Until then I am not able to tell you anything more.”

Thankfully, CD Projekt’s SVP of business development, Michał Nowakowski held a more optimistic view. “We do believe we’re closer than further,” he said. “The final call is theirs, so let’s wait and see.”

Even now, CD Projekt is still trying to optimize the game’s functions. So not only will Amatangelo bring new perspective to the following expansions, he will also be responsible for steering Cyberpunk 2077 out of its current perilous situation.
