Popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV announced via their community ‘Lodgestone’ website that there will be an “Announcement Showcase” on February 5 with very few outward details.

Next month’s announcement lines up closely with the prior debuts of major expansions, all of which have happened approximately two years apart.

Every expansion to Final Fantasy XIV has been announced at various in-person fan events since the 2014 Las Vegas Fan Fest announcement of Heavensward. Due to COVID-19 precautions, Square Enix, the game’s publisher, has not hosted any in-person conventions since 2019.

Final Fantasy XIV’s most recent expansion Shadowbringers has been very well received since its 2019 release. The expansion’s praised by both critics and the public, evidenced by matching Metacritic scores of 90 and 9.0. Since its initial release, Final Fantasy XIV’s developers have been leaving hints at where the story will go next.

Game Director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida further hinted in a New Year’s blogpost that the newest expansion may see the end of the storyline that started in 2013’s A Realm Reborn, the game’s first major expansion.
