PUBG: Battlegrounds is now free-to-play.

“We came to the decision to make PUBG: Battlegrounds free to play because we feel that it is truly the right time,” Dave Curd, Battlegrounds’ studio creative director, told GamesRadar.

Curd insisted that the move to make Battlegrounds free was “in no way a response” to Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends‘ free-to-play model. The game was previously $30.

“Our game is in a great place with eight maps, an engaged community, and our deep gun mechanics, so this is the natural next step and a great way to introduce more players to our universe,” Curd added. “I know there are a lot of people who are interested in PUBG: Battlegrounds but have never gotten around to playing it for various reasons – now is the perfect moment to get started.”

With the launch of the free-to-play version, comes an update. The new update features new gear and training modes.

While the PUBG: Battlegrounds will offer a standard free option, they will also offer a premium account, Battlegrounds Plus. For players who already purchased the game, Battlegrounds Plus will be automatically included. For those who are thinking of adding it, it will be $12.99 for the additional features.

Here is a list of features Battlegrounds Plus will include:

Bonus 1,300 G-COIN
Survival Masters XP + 100 percent boost
Career – Medal tab
Ranked Mode
Custom Match functionality
In-Game items, including the Captain’s Camo set, which includes hat, camo mask and camo gloves
