On January 6, 2021, Twitch announced that it would be removing the popular PogChamp Emote after the man the image is based on, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, released some controversial tweets regarding the woman who lost her life during the siege on the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6. Additionally, Twitch revealed that it would be “working with the Community” to find a new replacement for the PogChamp Emote. The replacement will be of other Twitch Streamers who have used the PogChamp face.

When Esports commentator Sean Plott was giving suggestions on what the website should do regarding replacing the popular emote, Twitch quote tweeted Plott with a tweet that read, “You know what? In the spirit of figuring out 2021 together, let’s just roll with it for now! Get ready for a new PogChamp every 24 hours, starting today.”

The PogChamp Emote is a popular image used during Live-Chats on Twitch used to express the on-the-edge-of-you-seat excitement during a stream of a competitive game, mostly relegated to fighting games. The decision as to whose face will show up during the constant changes every 24-hours will be up to Twitch, as they have yet to announce which streamers will be used during this test.
